Save the date 07.03.2024. Join our parallel session during EHEC!

EHEC is organized by the Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2) and brings together experts, researchers, and industry leaders in the field of hydrogen, providing a platform for sharing the latest advances, innovations, and developments in hydrogen-based technologies. With a focus on promoting sustainable and clean energy solutions, EHEC seeks to play a crucial role in advancing the adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source across Europe and the world. For this reason, the SH2E project wants to be present during this key event and has organised a parallel session.

This will be our agenda, themes and speakers:

9:30 – 9:45 WELCOME AND PRESENTATION OF SH2E PROJECT
Javier Dufour, IMDEA Energy (Spain)

9:45 – 10:00 ENVIRONMENTAL LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT

Javier Dufour, IMDEA Energy (Spain): Professor at Rey Juan Carlos University. Research Professor and Head of the Systems Analysis Unit of IMDEA Energy Institute (Spain). Currently, he is Deputy. Leader of the Cross-Cutting Activities Technical Committee of Hydrogen Europe Research. Formerly, he was Operating Agent of Task 36 Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (2014- 2017) for the Hydrogen TCP of the International Energy Agency. Coordinator of several projects focused in the sustainability and circularity of hydrogen systems. Other research interests are focused on process optimization, eco-design and energy planning of energy systems.

10:00 – 10:15 CRITICALITY INDICATOR

Christina Wulf, Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany): Team leader at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research – Systems Analysis and Technology Evaluation (IEK-STE) at Forschungszentrum Jülich for Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment. After finishing her Diploma in Energy and Environmental Engineering, she also received her PhD in the field of energy systems analysis from Hamburg University of Technology. Since 2015, she has been working on sustainability assessment of hydrogen energy systems in Jülich. Dr. Wulf is a renowned author with over 40 published articles and several book publications.

10:15 – 10:30 LIFE CYCLE COSTING

Christina Wulf, Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany) and Yuji Mizuno, Institute of Applied Energy (Japan)

Yuji Mizuno completed doctoral program at Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University in 2013. Joined Osaka University and studied environment-oriented product design and future scenario design from 2013 to 2015. Joined IAE in 2015 and has been working on analysis of hydrogen energy systems. From June 2022 to July 2023, seconded to the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan.

10:30 – 10:45 SOCIAL LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT

Andreas Ciroth, GreenDelta (Germany): founder and director of GreenDelta, a consulting and software company with focus on sustainability assessment and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). An environmental engineer by education, he finished his PhD (error calculation in LCA) in 2001 at the TU Berlin and is working since then in sustainability consulting and research. Andreas is author and coauthor of several papers and books about sustainability and LCA, about algorithms and databases, social LCA and Life Cycle Costing, and is leading the openLCA project to create a free, open source sustainability assessment software.

10:45 – 11:00 LIFE CYCLE SUSTAINABILITY ASSESSMENT – SH2E GUIDELINES
Diego Iribarren, IMDEA Energy (Spain): senior researcher in the Systems Analysis Unit of IMDEA Energy. He mainly works on sustainability assessment of energy systems from a combined technoeconomic, environmental and social perspective. In particular, he is an expert on life cycle sustainability assessment of hydrogen-related systems. He participates in a large number of research projects as principal investigator or work-package leader.

11:30 – 11:55 CASE 1: PEMFC
Jade Garcia, Symbio (France), Pierre Rigault, The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (France)

Jade holds a Degree in Engineering from Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers and a Master’s Degree in eco-design and
environmental management. She worked for 15 years in eco-design and Life Cycle Assessment, helping industrials to improve, simplify and harmonized their practices. Since January 2023, she is in charge of environmental activities for the product in Symbio, including LCA, carbon footprint, collaborative projects and training.

11:55 – 12:20 CASE 2: SOEC
Diego Iribarren, IMDEA Energy (Spain), Pierre Rigault, The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, (France) and Christina Wulf, Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany)
